Using the life and work of Thomas Chippendale as a tool for investigating the skills of craftspeople and looking at the Georgian period has been rewarding for the teachers and children involved. Through a series of visits to houses, hands on activities and demonstrations the children have experienced a new understanding of how people lived long ago and appreciated the craftsmanship of historic objects.
The resources in the menu on the left have been designed so that you can investigate the life and work of Thomas Chippendale in the classroom as well as through a visit to your local country house or museum. The resources include an interactive game, photographs, powerpoint presentations, step by step guides to activities, films of craftspeople and a timeline to make lessons engaging for the children.
If you would like to arrange a visit to an historic property with Chippendale furniture please click on Visit Chippendale and remember to download a trail to use in the house.
